Hello, dear blog readers! Normally my days off are filled with chasing around a happy little toddler (aka "Toodler" to us parents), but not so much this afternoon. We had friends over for lunch, and Toodler was perfectly happy playing with them and their toys, AND he got to eat a cookie or two. Not bad for a Toodler day's work!
And then, the disciplinary issues started. Repeatedly going for Daddy's glasses while Daddy was out of the house looking for job applications. Having to flick a cheek, which I've heard is more effective than a spanking (and today, it was very true!). Normally just the tone of voice when we say "no" is enough to deter the little man, but not today. Also, we had a raiding repeatedly of Mommy's purse when she wasn't looking. Now, I can tell you that I didn't leave it open on the floor for him to come by and raid. No, he figured out how to open it. Just like he figured out how to grab door knobs and get out of his Bouncy Seat when we're trying to unload the dishwasher. Yes, those little wheels are constantly turning. At the end of the day, though, he was still wanting to snuggle on my lap (having had obedience as the Toodler Theme of the Day), which made it all worthwhile. It's important to us to have a child know that we mean "no," and to take us seriously in things like parking lots, burning hands on stoves, etc. (And also to prevent mangled glasses. The budget does not account for a new pair of those right now.)
