Hello, dear blog readers! I have decided Oregon is a GREAT place to live! People here are so friendly; it's like southern cordial style and hospitality meets the Pacific Northwest. Yesterday, for example, we walked into this tiny little DMV in town. They bent the rules for us so that we could still take our written driving test after the hour of 4:00 pm since we had been waiting for *only* about 30 minutes. Not only did we get our state drivers' licenses, but we were also able to process both car registrations as well. We were only there for an hour! In contrast, it took Mike a couple of tries, and me about three tries (and four or more hours of waiting) just to get my CA driver's license, not to mention another 2 hours of waiting to get the car registered for CA plates. The same was true for my IL licenses as well. Hooray for Oregon! And not only did we get all of that done, we actually walked out of the DMV with smiles on our faces--a first! I thought most government employees were grumpy people, but these folks were so friendly we couldn't help but smile!
Today I'm hoping to get some more packing done, but that will require a trip to Target in Albany (yay!) to pick up a microwave cart and another bookshelf or two for Mike. (It's amazing how many books one accumulates when one has to make speeches/write sermons for a living!) And trash cans. Those are essential--the bags hanging off of cabinets just aren't doing it for me anymore.
We're both rather surprised at the amount of space in this place; it's just a matter of figuring out how to configure the furniture arrangement for optimal asthetics and functionality--keeping in mind, of course, that there will be a third person come August or September.
After Target, we're going to scope out one of the local wineries. Even if all I do is go smell the stuff, it will be neat to walk the property and see the wine process. I love going to different regions of the country to see how the wineries differ!

wow, a new state, and a new background on the blog! things are happening too fast! Just kidding. It sounds like you are really loving it there! What town are you in? I'll have to check out a map. I'm glad you like it there, and are settling in. Ikea has good and cheap bookshelves, or craigslist too- don't forget them!
